These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of Sia Wallet and related services provided by the Sia Foundation. By using our services, you agree to be bound by these Terms.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By downloading, installing, or using Sia Wallet (“the Wallet”), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service (“Terms”). These Terms establish a legally binding agreement between you (the “User”) and the entity responsible for developing and distributing the Wallet (the “Provider”).

If you do not agree with any provision of these Terms, you must immediately discontinue use of the Wallet, remove it from your device, and cease all interactions with the software. Your continued use of the Wallet constitutes your full and unconditional acceptance of these Terms, including any modifications or updates made in the future.

It is your responsibility to review these Terms periodically. The Provider reserves the right to amend, update, or replace any part of the Terms at its discretion. Notice of material changes may be provided through website announcements, in-application notifications, or other communication channels. By continuing to use the Wallet after such changes take effect, you agree to be legally bound by the revised Terms.

These Terms apply regardless of how you obtained the Wallet, including but not limited to direct download from official repositories, third-party distribution platforms, or source code compilation.

2. Nature of the Wallet

Sia Wallet is a non-custodial desktop application designed to allow Users to interact directly with the Sia blockchain. The Wallet functions solely as client-side software, meaning that all sensitive operations, including key generation, storage, and transaction signing, occur locally on the User’s device.

The Provider does not operate accounts, hold balances, or have custody of any cryptocurrency on behalf of Users. At no time does the Provider have access to, knowledge of, or control over the private keys, recovery seeds, or passphrases generated within the Wallet. You, the User, are solely responsible for safeguarding and managing this information.

The Wallet supports only the platforms explicitly stated by the Provider at the time of release. As of the effective date of these Terms, Sia Wallet is distributed exclusively as a desktop application for Linux, macOS, and Windows operating systems. Mobile applications, browser extensions, and web-based interfaces are not provided or supported.

By its design, the Wallet does not require the creation of user accounts, submission of identity documents, or disclosure of personal data. All Wallet data is stored locally on your device, and you remain in full control of your cryptographic materials at all times.

The Wallet enables you to:

  • Generate and manage cryptographic keys and wallet addresses
  • Send and receive Siacoin (SC) and interact with the Sia blockchain
  • View balances and transaction history
  • Utilize advanced features as they are released (such as multi-signature support or hardware wallet integration)
The Provider makes no representations or guarantees about interoperability of the Wallet with third-party applications, hardware devices, or services unless explicitly stated in official documentation

3. “As-Is” Disclaimer

The Wallet is provided strictly on an “as is” and “as available” basis. By using the Wallet, you acknowledge and agree that the Provider makes no warranties or guarantees of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory, regarding the Wallet or its operation.

Without limiting the generality of the foregoing, the Provider expressly disclaims any warranties of:

  • Merchantability — no guarantee that the Wallet is fit for ordinary or commercial purposes
  • Fitness for a particular purpose — no guarantee that the Wallet will meet your personal, financial, or technical requirements;
  • Non-infringement — no guarantee that the Wallet or its components are free from claims of intellectual property infringement;
  • Uninterrupted operation — no guarantee that the Wallet will function without downtime, delays, or disruptions;
  • Error-free performance — no guarantee that the Wallet will be free of bugs, vulnerabilities, or unintended behavior;
  • Security or immunity — no guarantee that the Wallet is impervious to malware, unauthorized access, or blockchain-level attacks.

You further acknowledge that:

  1. The Wallet depends on the availability and functioning of the Sia blockchain network. Any interruption, degradation, or failure of the Sia network may directly affect the Wallet’s performance.
  2. The Wallet may become temporarily or permanently unusable due to software updates, protocol changes, hard forks, consensus failures, or incompatibility with future versions of the Sia blockchain.
  3. The Provider does not warrant that files, downloads, or updates distributed for the Wallet are free from harmful code, and you are solely responsible for securing your environment with antivirus software, firewalls, or other protective measures.
  4. The Provider is under no obligation to provide technical support, maintenance services, or updates, though such services may be offered at the Provider’s discretion.
By continuing to use the Wallet, you expressly agree that you assume all risks associated with its installation and operation, and that you will not rely on any representations or warranties beyond those explicitly stated in these Terms.

4. User Responsibilities

You are solely responsible for the safe and lawful use of the Wallet. Because the Wallet is non-custodial and operates entirely on your device, the Provider has no ability to access, recover, or reset your Wallet. All duties of care and all consequences arising from use rest with you.

In particular, you are responsible for:

Safeguarding recovery materials

Your recovery seed and private keys must be securely stored. If they are lost, stolen, or disclosed, your funds cannot be recovered.

Protecting your environment

You must ensure that your device is secure, free from malware, and updated with appropriate security measures such as passwords and encryption.

Verifying transactions

You must carefully check addresses, amounts, and fees before broadcasting. All blockchain transactions are final and irreversible.

Following applicable laws

You must comply with all regulations in your jurisdiction, including tax reporting, licensing, and any restrictions on cryptocurrency.

Avoiding prohibited uses

You may not use the Wallet for money laundering, terrorist financing, fraud, or any other unlawful purpose. You may not distribute harmful code, attempt to exploit the Wallet, or disrupt the Sia blockchain.

Important: Failure to observe these responsibilities may result in permanent loss of funds, legal consequences, or other harm for which the Provider bears no liability.

5. Risks of Cryptocurrency Use

By using the Wallet, you acknowledge and accept the inherent risks associated with cryptocurrencies and decentralized technologies. These risks are not hypothetical — they are well-documented in the industry and may result in partial or total loss of your digital assets. The Provider has no ability to eliminate or mitigate these risks on your behalf.

Cryptocurrency transactions are irreversible. Once a transaction has been broadcast to the Sia blockchain and confirmed, it cannot be altered, canceled, or refunded. Mistakes such as sending funds to the wrong address or entering the wrong amount cannot be corrected by the Provider or by the network.

The value of Siacoin and other digital assets is subject to extreme volatility. Market prices may rise or fall dramatically over short periods of time, and there is no guarantee of stability or long-term value. You may lose part or all of the value of your holdings due to market fluctuations.

Use of the Wallet and the Sia blockchain may also expose you to technical risks, including but not limited to:

  • Software bugs, coding errors, or vulnerabilities in the Wallet
  • Consensus failures or forks in the Sia blockchain
  • Network attacks such as 51% attacks, denial-of-service, or other hostile actions
  • Failures of your local hardware, operating system, or storage devices
  • Loss or corruption of backups or recovery materials

In addition, the regulatory landscape for cryptocurrencies is constantly evolving. Governments may introduce new laws, regulations, or restrictions that affect your ability to hold, transfer, or use Siacoin. These legal changes may impact the functionality of the Wallet or the value of your assets, and compliance remains solely your responsibility.

Finally, there is the risk of permanent loss due to mismanagement of private keys or recovery seeds. If your keys are stolen, exposed, or forgotten, your funds cannot be retrieved. Unlike traditional financial institutions, there is no customer service department, central authority, or backup mechanism capable of restoring access to your assets.

By continuing to use the Wallet, you confirm that you understand these risks and accept that you alone bear the consequences of your decisions. The Provider disclaims all liability for losses arising from market fluctuations, regulatory changes, software vulnerabilities, or user error.

6. Third-Party Services

The Wallet may interact with, or provide links to, external services that are not operated or controlled by the Provider. These services may include blockchain explorers, APIs, update servers, developer tools, or hardware devices such as hardware wallets. Your use of any such third-party service is entirely at your own risk.

The Provider makes no warranties, representations, or guarantees regarding the availability, accuracy, reliability, or security of third-party services. These services are independent from the Wallet, and their operators may apply their own terms of service, privacy policies, or usage restrictions. It is your responsibility to review and understand those terms before relying on third-party integrations.

Examples of third-party risks include, but are not limited to:

  • Downtime or outages — external explorers or APIs may become unavailable without notice;
  • Inaccurate data — balances, transactions, or prices reported by third-party services may be outdated or incorrect;
  • Security vulnerabilities — hardware wallets, plugins, or libraries may contain flaws outside the Provider’s control;
  • Policy changes — operators of external services may modify features, pricing, or access rules without warning;
  • Data collection — third-party platforms may gather information about your usage, which is beyond the scope of the Wallet’s design.

The inclusion of any third-party service within the Wallet does not constitute endorsement, partnership, or assumption of responsibility by the Provider. If you choose to connect your Wallet to such services, you accept that any harm, loss, or dispute arising from their use is between you and the third-party operator, and not the Provider.

By continuing to use the Wallet, you acknowledge that third-party services are outside the Provider’s control and that reliance on them is at your own discretion and risk.

7. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the Provider and its affiliates, officers, directors, employees, contractors, and agents shall not be liable for any damages or losses, whether direct or indirect, arising from or related to your use of the Wallet. You acknowledge that use of the Wallet carries significant risks, and that all consequences of use fall solely upon you.

Without limiting the generality of the foregoing, the Provider specifically disclaims liability for:

  • Loss of digital assets resulting from lost or compromised private keys, recovery seeds, or backups;
  • Transaction errors such as transfers to unintended recipients, incorrect amounts, or misconfigured fees;
  • Market volatility leading to loss of value of Siacoin or other cryptocurrencies;
  • Unauthorized access to your device or Wallet caused by malware, phishing, or other attacks;
  • Downtime or disruption caused by failures of the Sia blockchain, internet providers, or external infrastructure;
  • Third-party services including but not limited to blockchain explorers, APIs, or hardware devices;
  • Regulatory changes that affect your ability to hold, transfer, or use cryptocurrency;
  • Incidental or consequential damages such as lost profits, lost opportunities, or business interruptions.

The Provider’s aggregate liability for all claims, damages, or causes of action arising out of or related to the Wallet shall not exceed one hundred United States dollars (USD \$100) or the equivalent value in your local currency. This limitation applies regardless of the nature of the claim, whether based on contract, tort, negligence, strict liability, or any other legal theory, and regardless of whether the Provider has been advised of the possibility of such damages.

Some jurisdictions do not allow limitations of liability for certain damages. If applicable law restricts or prohibits the above limitations, the Provider’s liability will be limited to the maximum extent permitted by law in that jurisdiction.

By continuing to use the Wallet, you expressly agree that the Provider shall not be responsible for any losses or damages beyond the limited scope set out in this section.

8. Termination of Use

You may discontinue use of the Wallet at any time by uninstalling the application from your device and ceasing all interactions with the software. Because the Wallet is non-custodial, your funds remain entirely under your control through your recovery seed and private keys. Termination of use does not affect your ownership of Siacoin or your ability to access it using other compatible tools, provided you retain your recovery materials.

The Provider reserves the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the distribution, maintenance, or availability of the Wallet at any time, with or without notice. This may occur for reasons including but not limited to:

  • Changes in the regulatory environment that restrict or prohibit distribution of the Wallet;
  • Security incidents or vulnerabilities that require suspension of releases;
  • Strategic or technical decisions to end development or support for the software.

In the event of suspension or discontinuation by the Provider, the Wallet already installed on your device will typically continue to operate as designed. However, future updates, bug fixes, or compatibility improvements may no longer be provided, and you accept the risk of operating unsupported software.

Violations of these Terms may also result in the immediate suspension or discontinuation of your right to use the Wallet, including but not limited to attempts to interfere with the Wallet’s operation, distribution of malicious code, or use of the Wallet for unlawful purposes. Because the Wallet does not rely on accounts or central authorization, enforcement of such termination is limited to withdrawal of support, updates, or distribution by the Provider.

Termination, whether initiated by you or the Provider, does not relieve you of the responsibilities outlined in these Terms, including your obligations to safeguard your private keys, comply with applicable law, and bear all risks associated with your use of the Wallet.

9. Governing Law & Dispute Resolution

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Delaware, United States of America, without regard to conflict of law principles. If you access or use the Wallet from outside the United States, you are responsible for compliance with all local laws, rules, and regulations that may apply to you.

Any dispute, claim, or controversy arising out of or relating to these Terms, the Wallet, or your use of the Wallet shall be resolved through binding arbitration, rather than in court, except as otherwise provided in this section. Arbitration shall be conducted in accordance with the rules of the American Arbitration Association (AAA) or a comparable arbitration body, and the proceedings shall take place in English. The arbitrator’s decision shall be final and binding, and judgment on the award rendered by the arbitrator may be entered in any court of competent jurisdiction.

By agreeing to arbitration, you waive your right to bring or participate in lawsuits in court, including jury trials, to the fullest extent permitted by law.

You further agree to a Class Action Waiver, meaning that disputes must be resolved on an individual basis. You may not bring a claim as a plaintiff or class member in a class, consolidated, or representative action, and the arbitrator may not consolidate more than one person’s claims or preside over any form of class proceeding.

Notwithstanding the foregoing, either party may seek preliminary injunctive relief, restraining orders, or other equitable remedies from a court of competent jurisdiction when necessary to protect its rights or property while arbitration is pending.

If any provision of this section is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect, and the unenforceable portion shall be replaced with a valid provision that most closely reflects the original intent.

10. Changes to Terms

The Provider reserves the right to amend, update, or otherwise modify these Terms at any time, in its sole discretion. Changes may be necessary to reflect updates to the Wallet, changes in applicable law or regulation, evolving industry standards, or other operational considerations.

When material changes are made, the Provider will make reasonable efforts to notify Users through one or more of the following channels:

  • Posting the updated Terms on the official Sia Wallet website;
  • In-application notices or prompts upon launching the Wallet;
  • Public announcements through official community channels such as GitHub or Discord;
  • Email notifications, where applicable and where User contact details are available.

All modifications take effect on the date specified in the notice or, if no date is specified, immediately upon posting. It is your responsibility to review these Terms periodically to remain informed of any updates.

By continuing to use the Wallet after the effective date of any modifications, you are deemed to have accepted the revised Terms in full. If you do not agree with the updated Terms, your sole remedy is to discontinue use of the Wallet and uninstall the software from your device.

No modification of these Terms shall apply retroactively to events or disputes that arose prior to the effective date of the change. All modifications are forward-looking unless explicitly stated otherwise.
